About ‘Jide Aje: (pronounced gee-day, ah-jay)
‘Jide Aje is a Detroit visual artist of Yoruba/Nigerian ancestry. Although he primarily paints for personal pleasure, his work also explores the meaning and intersection of contemporary African art and the wider world. This is quite evident from the mining of West African textile motifs as jumping off points for his vivid, texture rich creations.
'Jide's work has been shown locally and nationally with the National Conference of Artists (Michigan Chapter), the Charles H Wright Museum of African American Art and History, HATCH, 2739 Edwin and the WCCCD Brown and Juanita C. Ford galleries.
He currently works out of his studio space in the Corktown district in the city of Detroit, Michigan.
'Jide is also a strong supporter and active member of various local arts and cultural organizations.
